What are camp’s volunteer needs?
Camp is fully volunteer run and we value each and every one of our volunteers!
We need:
- Unit Leaders (see below)
- Adult volunteers, any number of days
- SetUp and TearDown volunteers
- LateOver volunteers
Occasionally camp needs assistance prepping a craft or help with a project prior to camp week. If you would like to volunteer but cannot be onsite, please check with camp staff for these needs.
ALL ADULT CAMP VOLUNTEERS are required to be registered adult girl scouts and be background checked by GSCO.
What is a Unit Leader?
Unit Leaders (ULs) are one of the backbones of our camp. They determine how many campers camp can handle because ULs are our designated Safety Wise volunteers. We can only accept campers/Boys/Minis to the extent we have ULs.
ULs commit to being onsite all 5 days of camp and being responsible for a unit of campers. The camp program is fully planned in advance and led by our PAs. ULs (and all adult volunteers) help keep campers focused and assist the PAs at craft/game stations. ULs also handle camper conflicts per Behavior Policy.
ULs receive a 50% discount for this commitment and for attending the All Camp Parent Camper Meeting. At this meeting, ULs will help their unit sign up for GORP items, choose their In Unit meal, SWAP and Unit yell.
A UL may work with their daughter or not as they prefer.
What is an Adult Volunteer?
An adult volunteer is someone who would like to be at camp with their child(ren) but doesn’t want to be a UL, either because they are new to camp, cannot commit to all 5 days or for other reasons. As a family based camp, we welcome all volunteers.
Because our adult volunteers often have children that aren’t girl scouts (Boys and Minis) we offer units for those children at a greatly reduced fee so our volunteers do not have to pay for day care to volunteer with their scout. Adult Volunteers may volunteer to be ULs or assist in these units as well.
Adult volunteers on site will spend the day attending most of the camper activities and seeing how camp works. They can help children with their activities and assist the UL and PAs as necessary.
Camp also organizes our adult volunteers to help in certain areas as needs arise. This may mean prepping crafts, assisting PAs in setting up games, helping with food prep on cook day, etc. Rest assured, you will still have plenty of time with your child throughout the day/week.
Adult volunteers are also needed before and after camp for SetUp and TearDown and the LateOver as well.
Benefits of Volunteering?
FUN! FUN! FUN! And the chance to spend some quality time with your child!
Our campers make new friends at camp and so do our adults! Most of our adult volunteers return year after year to reconnect with their child, make new friends and just because they fell in love with camp.
